Freezeout Tournaments — What Are They and How Do They Work?

May 29, 2020 Category :General Off

There are all kinds of poker tournaments nowadays, and they can be divided in various ways. The reason why there are so many competitions is that there are many types of poker and many different rules regarding tournaments.

For example, players who like No-Limit Hold ’em will only take part in tournaments that offer this kind of poker, but what about PLO? There are a lot of Pot-Limit Omaha fans out there, and they want to have as many options.

There are, however, poker tournaments that have different rules, regardless of what type of poker you play. One of the most important rules out there is the one about possible rebuys.

What’s a rebuy? It’s an opportunity to buy your place back into the tournament if you lose all your chips.

Most USA legal poker sites offer rebuy tournaments. If you can rebuy your seat several times, then we’re talking about multi-buy tournaments. These often allow you to register several stacks right away to increase your chances even more.

Naturally, rebuy options are often available until a certain period when no more rebuys are allowed.

One And Done

However, the most popular type of poker tournaments out there is called Freezeout tournaments. Players who take part in them do not have an option to try again if they lose. Simply put, once they hit the rail, they are out of the game.

The reason why many poker tournaments allow rebuys and multi-buys is to attract more players and create bigger prize pools. Moreover, they offer an excellent opportunity for players to have another chance, and sometimes these players even end up winning the tournament.

As you can see, this is a rather easy rule, but poker tournaments tend to be complicated from time to time overall, especially if you’re new to the world of poker. That’s why we’re going to focus on these rules from time to time and help you understand how they work. That way, you’ll be able to choose which tournaments you like the most and get the most out of them.

You can also explore these tournaments yourself and try to learn by playing, as it is also a great way to acquire poker knowledge and skills. Our team of experts made a list of some of the best USA poker sites that offer all kinds of cash games and tournaments. Make sure to check them out and select the one that meets your needs.

Americas Cardroom Offers Private Poker Tournaments

May 10, 2020 Category :Online Poker Off

A lot has changed in the world of poker in the last couple of months since the coronavirus started spreading around the globe. That’s why many poker players decided to continue playing their favorite game on the web.

However, many people are not professional poker players and are just looking for a way to play the game on the web with their friends a family. In fact, many wondered whether it was possible to create a private poker tournament instead of taking part in big poker tournaments offered on online poker platforms.

Americas Cardroom has the answer to that. You can now use this platform to create your very own private poker tournament and invite people that you want to include in it.

Setting it up is rather easy on this USA legal poker platform. First of all, you need to choose which type of game you want to include in the tournament. There are currently three options to choose from: No-Limit Hold ’em, Pot-Limit Omaha, and PLO8.

Options To Choose

Moreover, you need to choose the pace of the tournament by choosing its average time. There are three structures to choose from.

The fast tournament lasts approximately an hour, and the medium lasts about 90 minutes. Finally, the slot type of tournament lasts for 180. There’s no right answer to what you should choose when creating a private tournament. Simply make sure to check with your friends what they prefer the most and select accordingly.

You also need to name your tournament and use a specific password that only you and your friends should know. Once you create it, everyone who wants to take part will have to input a password to apply.

The only downside to this concept is the fixed buy-in rate, which is $1.65. Therefore, you will be able to play with your friends, but only for small stakes. Nevertheless, it’s the fun and quality time with your friends that matter the most.

But playing poker online doesn’t have to be an experience that you only share with your friends. If you’re new to poker, there are many great poker platforms that offer cash games and tournaments where you can start with micro stakes and learn the game by not losing a lot.

Therefore, if your friends aren’t available for playing private poker tournaments, you can claim poker bonuses and take part in public tournaments that are offered on platforms such as Americas Cardroom. In fact, we shortlisted several poker sites with great welcome offers, so feel free to check them out.

What is a Nut Hand in Poker?

April 12, 2020 Category :General Off

If you’re in the process of learning how to play poker, you probably stumbled upon the term “nut hand” or “the nuts” a couple of times. This is a very interesting term that basically determined the best possible hand in a given situation.

The “nuts” can be different depending on the game you play, but we’ll focus on Texas Hold ’em for now to explain this concept a bit more.

Let’s take a look at a practical example. If the board shows 5, 6, A, 9 and 5. Where 5, 6, and nine are hearts, and a player has a 7 and an 8 of hearts, they would have the 9-high straight flush. In other words, they managed to create a hand of five consecutive cards of the same suit, which is a pretty good-ranking hand.

At this point, any other combination of hole and community cards will not be as good as the 9-high straight flush. Therefore, other opponents will not be able to create a better combination than that with their hole cards.

However, poker lovers who enjoy playing this game at USA legal poker sites also like to include terms such as second-nut hand or even third-nut hand.

Second Best

Simply put, the second-nut hand is the second-best hand that can be created in combination with the community cards.

In the example above, we have two 5 cards. If another player happens to have pocket fives, they would have four-of-a-kind. However, that hand is still not as good as the straight flush.,

In that manner, the third-nut hand would be the third strongest combination, and so on.

If you want to test how this works in practice, you should try playing Texas Hold’em or Omaha games online. All you have to do is think about the possible card combinations that can be created at any given point of time during a hand.

This might seem difficult at the start, but it’s done by calculating poker odds and paying attention to poker outs.

To do that, you need two things — a good theoretical background and a lot of practice. There’s a lot of great content about poker theory on the web.

However, when it comes to choosing a site, you should check out our USA poker sites list. We narrowed down the choice of poker platform and reviewed each of them to ensure maximum quality when it comes to playing poker on the web.

Poker Hand Ranking Guide for Complete Newbies

April 3, 2020 Category :General Off

The two most popular poker variants — Texas Hold ’em and Omaha — are both using the same card ranking system, which we are going to explore in this article. Once you learn this, you’ll know possible outcomes, and thus, how to approach every hand.

The lowest valid hand is a pair. The higher the card — the stronger the pair. Therefore a pair of aces is not the same thing as a pair of threes.

The second one is two pairs. Therefore, if you have a pair of deuces and a pair of threes, that’s a better card than one pair of aces.

The next in line in all USA legal poker sites and casinos is “three of a kind,” which is simply three cards of the same kind, such as three jacks.

After that, there’s the popular “straight,” which is any five cards in order. For example, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, and King of any suit is an example of the straight.

If you collect five cards of the same suit, you will get a “flush.” A 3, 5, 8, Q, and K of clubs is an example of a flush.

Even Better

The hand rank above that is called “full house,” and it’s a combo of three of a kind and a pair. Therefore, if you have 3-3-3 and 5-5, you get a full house.

The next one in line is the popular “four of a kind,” which is four cards of the same kind, such as four aces, for example.

The second strongest hand is a straight flush, which is five cards of the same suit in order. For example, a 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 of diamonds is a straight flush.

The single strongest hand you can get in poker is the so-called royal flush, which is 10, J, Q, K, and A of the same suit. This is a very rare hand, as the odds of landing a royal flush are very low. However, the player who has it is unbeatable, unless there’s another royal flush, which probably never happened.

If you want to play poker and see how these rankings are put into practice, you should find a suitable online poker platform for your where you can immediately test them. We made a list of some of the best USA poker sites, so feel free to check it out and select a platform that meets your needs.

Poker Streets — A Short Guide for Complete Newbies

March 6, 2020 Category :General Off

Now that you are able to play USA legal poker, you might be confused with the lingo used in the game. One of the most frequent things you’ll hear in Texas Hold’em is the world “street.”

So, what are streets in poker, and how do you use them to gain an advantage against your opponents? Let’s take a closer look at this.

Streets refer to community cards and betting rounds in Texas Hold’em. There are three streets in this type of poker, and they are the flop, the turn, and the river.

The flop is a name for the first three community cards that are turned face-up in a single poker hand. These three cards are revealed after players are dealt two hole cards and the pre-flop betting round are over.

The flop will tell you more about how to proceed further. If you already have a valid poker hand from the three community cards and your two hole cards, you might want to proceed with betting.

However, this is not the topic of this article — so we’ll leave betting and playing strategies for another time. For now, let’s just focus on the streets.

Once the flop betting round is over, another community card is revealed, and this street is called the turn. The same betting pattern is repeated once again. After that, the last street is revealed, and it is called the river.

After the river betting round, the players who decided to stay in the game all the way through get to the showdown, and the one with a higher poker hand wins the pot.

Different Approaches

What’s important to know about the streets in poker is that all of them require a somewhat different approach when playing the game. Therefore, make sure to explore how to bet on the flop, turn and river, respectively, as there are some very useful strategies that can help you.

If you feel ready to play some online poker, make sure to check out our poker site reviews. We made a shortlist of poker sites that are available in the US and reviewed each of them, covering some of the most important aspects.

Once you read the reviews, feel free to make a choice and start your online poker adventure on one of the sites we suggested. Don’t forget to read more about the bonuses they offer for new players who join these platforms.

Bad Beat — What Is It and Why Does It Happen?

December 14, 2019 Category :General Off

All players who play poker face a bad beat at least once. It happens to all who play USA legal poker on the web, poker tournaments, cash games — basically any type of poker. Essentially, a bad beat is an unlikely scenario of a better hand losing to a weaker hand. But how is that even possible?

Well, the beauty of poker is that one or two cards can change everything. In the case of a bad beat, those cards are usually the turn and the river.

Let’s say player A has the bullets (pocket aces), and the other player B has a two and a three of hearts. Statistically speaking, player A should have much more of a chance of winning the hand than player B, but B proceeds with the hand nevertheless.

A flop may turn another ace, giving player A three-of-a-kind. The ace on the flop is an ace of hearts. On the other hand, player B may end up with nothing at that point. However, for some reason — due to lack of experience or just plain bluffing — player B continues to pursue his hand and calls bets made by player A.

Now, the bad-beat scenario would be for the turn and the river to both be hearts, making player B end up with a flush, whereas the strongest hand by player A would still be three-of-a-kind. This is a bad-beat scenario, meaning that player B had a lot of luck at this point and ended up winning the hand, although they started as an underdog.

No Reason

The reason why bad beats happen does not really exist — it’s mostly pure luck, and it’s what makes the game of poker exciting. However, many times, when something like that happens, it’s a great way to tilt the player who was supposed to win the hand, causing anger, frustration, and a lot of other emotions.

If you happen to be on the losing side and experience a bad beat, it is very important to stay calm and not let emotions take control. Nobody likes being a loser, especially not after being so close to winning.

To minimize bad beats from taking place and learning how to control your emotions if something like that occurs, you need to do only one thing — play poker as much as you can and learn how to deal with this type of situation.

Make sure to check out some of the best USA poker sites to find great opponents and play poker as much as you want.

Poker Lingo: Explanations of Poker Terms — Part 1

November 9, 2019 Category :General Off

Playing poker with your friends is always fun, and if both you and your friends are new to the game, you will not run into trouble while playing the game. The rules of Texas hold ’em and other poker variants are somewhat simple.

However, the moment you decide to play USA legal poker on a slightly more professional level (which usually means playing online poker), you will encounter some of the terms that may not be as familiar. These terms are usually related to some poker strategies or betting that are widely accepted by the players.

Let’s take a look at a couple of interesting ones.

Ante

The ante is usually a type of small bet that all players have to make before every hand. It’s a sort of payment for taking part in playing the hand.

Backdoor

Backdoor winners are those who don’t have favorable cards on the flop, but they manage to make a good hand with the turn and the river. In other words, their win came through the back door and not straight away. For example, if you have 9, 10, and J in your hand and on the flop, and Q and K coming on the turn and the river, respectively, you will make a backdoor win.

Bubble

In tournaments, many players pay an entry fee (the buy-in) in order to take part and play poker against other players. However, not all players get a prize. Before every event, the number of players who get to share the prize pool is determined. The last player to finish the game without receiving any money is the bubble. For example, if the top 15 spots are paid and you end up 16th, you are officially the bubble.

Counterfeit

Being counterfeited meaning getting cards on the board that make your hole cards without value. For example, if you have a pair of fives in your hand and the community cards display a pair of nines and a pair of jacks, your fives are no longer important, and all other players can beat you if they have a hole card higher than a five.

Every once in a while, we will get back to the Poker Lingo articles and continue exploring interesting terms used in poker. Until then, make sure to check out some poker site reviews and start your online journey as a poker player. Most of these sites offer great welcome bonuses for new players, and they are a great way of entering the world of semi-professional and professional poker.
