How to Know Whether A Poker Site Is Legal

July 5, 2020 Category :General Off

There are many poker platforms offering their services to people around the globe. The bad news is that some of them are not legal. In fact, many sites are outright scam platforms that have but one aim — to steal your money and offer nothing in return.

As a newcomer to the world of online poker, it’s very important that you’re aware of potential threats that exist on the web and avoid them.

One of the ways to do it is to check whether the poker site of your choice is legal. But how to do that?

The first thing that every USA legal poker must have is a legitimate license for operating on the web. Therefore, make sure to check out whether the site is licensed.

Now, there are many offshore regulators, such as the ones in Panama, Curacao, Malta, and more, and you should know that these are reputable and legitimate regulators. Poker sites that they license are usually legal and reputable.

Check The Reviews

To ensure that the site is truly legal, you need to get a general idea about its reputation. Namely, many new sites obtain a license but then start illegal operations afterward.

The good news is that these sites are usually busted pretty quickly and receive a bunch of negative reviews. The sites that are truly legal have a good reputation, so we advise you to read more about them before you proceed to open an account.

But even if the poker site is legal and reputable, it doesn’t mean it’s good for you. Some sites have a pretty bad choice of games and very low traffic, and you definitely want to stick with those that have enough players. That way, you’ll have more options when choosing cash games and tournaments.

Every reputable and legal poker site comes with a set of bonuses for new users, as well as for the regular ones. That’s why you should also pay attention to available promotions and their value.

Just pay attention to the underlying rules for those bonuses, which are often found in their respective T&Cs sections.

One of the great online poker sites is BetOnline. If you’re interested in finding out how this site works and what bonuses and poker options it offers, make sure to read our BetOnline poker review.

We covered every important aspect of this platform, including its payment options, customer support, available games, and more.

Drinking and Playing — Should You Do It?

May 1, 2020 Category :General Off

After a night of heavy drinking, you decide to get back home. However, you notice that your PC is on and that you can play some poker before you go to bed.

What happens next is that you wake up the next morning only to find out that your entire balance on your favorite poker platform is gone. You’ve spent it all.

Let’s get to the point straight away — alcohol is bad for playing poker. It not only clouds your judgment but also puts you in a state where you can easily tilt and stop playing poker responsibly.

All the USA legal poker sites stand united in one thing — whenever you gamble, make sure to do it responsibly. You’ll agree that this is the ultimate way to prevent poker or any other type of card or casino game from becoming your problem.

There are studies that show how alcohol and gambling are somehow related. In other words, if you have a drinking problem, the chances are that you might have a gambling problem as well.

Never A Good Idea

Even if you don’t, drinking alcohol is not a good idea. Poker is a game that requires a very high level of focus. It requires a sophisticated approach, so your brain needs to be completely into it. After a couple of beers, you will not be able to judge clearly, despite thinking that you can.

So, should you drink at all when playing poker? If you aim to maximize your success, the best way is to avoid alcoholic beverages while playing. You can always drink after the game to celebrate the victory or drown your sorrows.

The only way it’s acceptable to drink is when you play for really small stakes and with your friends. That way, you’ll be surrounded by people you love and have a good time.

However, as soon as you go to a casino or play poker online, try staying off the booze. It’s the only way to be the best at this game, and many professional poker players will agree with that.

If you’re ready to be the new rising star in the world of online poker, you first need to find the best USA legal poker site. That’s why we made a list of the best poker platforms for Americans.

Feel free to check it out to find out the site that meets your needs. Pay attention to welcome bonuses for new players to enhance your overall experience of playing the game on the web.

Cash Games vs. Tournament — What To Choose

January 11, 2020 Category :General Off

If you’re new to this game and you want to play USA legal poker on the web, you first must make one important choice — whether to play cash games or tournament poker. This article will explore the differences between the two and how they can affect your poker experience.

Cash Games

Cash games don’t have a tournament structure. What you basically do here is buy a certain amount of chips with cash and join a poker table. You can play as long as you want, and if you lose all the chips, you can buy more chips whenever you want.

Also, most of the time, players can quit cash games any time they want. For example, if you did well, won a lot of chips, and you think it’s time to go, you can convert your chips to cash and walk out.

Finally, blinds (antes) for cash games are always the same, no matter how long you play.

Tournaments

Just like any competition, tournaments usually attract more players than cash games. In fact, tournaments usually occupy several tables at once, while cash games are mostly focused on just one table.

Although tournaments require you to deposit some money to be able to take part in them, all players are given the same number of chips. Players collect money for the prize pool this way, and the official decides how many top spots get to be rewarded.

The winner of the tournament is usually the one to win the biggest chunk of the prize pool.

Tournaments may allow re-entries for some time at the start, but players still have a limited number of tries. That’s different in cash games as they allow you to re-buy your spot as many times as you want.

Finally, to make tournaments time-constrained, a concept of levels was introduced. Basically, the minimum amount of money players have to deposit in every hand (small blind and big blind) increases after every level.

Levels last for a certain amount of time, which is usually decided by tournament organizers.

Basically, cash games are more relaxed and casual, whereas tournaments require longer focus and a competitive spirit. No matter which type of poker you choose, you need to select a good online poker platform that is able to offer both of these variants.

New Jersey Legalizes Poker and Casino

January 24, 2014 Category :Legislation Off

Seal of New JerseyOnline poker is now legal in New Jersey.  That’s right!  If you live in New Jersey you can now legally play poker online as they have joined Nevada and Delaware as the third state to legalize online gambling, or at least some form of online gambling.  The bill was passed in February of 2013 and the first casino was launched in November, 2013.

In simple terms, the bill that was passed in an overwhelming majority, allows casino operators of New Jersey casinos to launch online gambling sites that offer both online poker and casino games.  Sports betting was not part of the bill.  New Jersey will continue to try to get sports betting legalized at both their brick and mortar casinos in Atlantic City and their online casinos.

So far the only other two states to offer online poker are Nevada and Delaware.  There continues to be talk about the states joining forces so the poker sites can work together.  This will eventually happen, but no one knows when that will be.  Most states are struggling for money and this is one way for states to create revenue.  The state of New Jersey stands to make a 15% tax from online casinos which could be substantial.  There is no doubt that 2014 will bring more states into the online casino industry.  It is just too good to pass up and once they see how much revenue is being created they will surely jump at the chance and legalize online gambling in their respective states.

The big catch is that you must live in New Jersey to play online poker in New Jersey. If you live outside the state you will not be able to create an account. This is monitored by the players IP address which tells the poker room and casino where the player is located. While there has been some complications with this approach, in all it has worked rather well.

Depositing and withdrawing to the online sites is done with fairly easy.  Most online casinos take major credit cards and debit cards while withdrawing is done by check or bank wire. Because these sites are fully licensed and regulated in the state making credit card deposits is much easier than using an offshore poker site or casino. Some banks however have made the decision to not allow gambling transactions. We think the banks have gone a little too far here “protecting” their customers from themselves, and if your credit card is issued by one of these banks you will not be able to deposit.

Caesars Interactive Entertainment is the active player behind the New Jersey online casinos.  They are the leader in the industry for now but we assume many casinos will follow suit.
